Roland Hwang - Biography

Roland Hwang is Assistant Attorney General of Michigan. He is also a member of the State Bar Public Outreach Committee.

Mr. Hwang is an activist and lifelong Michigander. He was born in Detroit to parents who emigrated here from China. He has served as president of the Association of Chinese Americans, the Asian American Bar Association of Michigan, and American Citizens for Justice (ACJ), an Asian American civil rights organization that arose from the Vincent Chin civil rights case. Mr. Hwang is the current vice president of ACJ.

He has chaired the Michigan State Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He has served as a hearing referee for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Mr. Hwang is also the vice chair of the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission.

He earned his bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, and M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, and his J.D. and LL.M. from Wayne State University Law School. He is an attorney with the State of Michigan, and teaches Asian Pacific American History and Law as an adjunct at the University of Michigan.
